A small wearable artwork created through measured drawing, fine linework, layered color, and hand finishing.


Product Overview

This document presents the finished Seated Buddha thangka necklace and records the making process of the same miniature painting. The calm composition develops from measured guides and pencil construction into precise ink linework, layered mineral color, and a finished wearable pendant.

The completed pendant uses a rounded gold-tone relief frame, ornamental top bail, and dark braided necklace cord. Measurements are approximate and should be confirmed against the physical item.


STEP 01

Canvas Sizing and Guides

 

A small rounded painting boundary, vertical center axis, horizontal proportion line, and registration marks establish the exact pendant-scale working area.


STEP 02

Early Pencil Construction

 

The Buddha head, topknot, shoulders, torso, hands, bowl, halo, and loose leg shapes are placed with light graphite and visible proportional corrections.


STEP 03

Completed Pencil Composition

 

The seated pose, robe folds, lotus throne, radiating halo, jewel points, and surrounding ornament are completed in delicate pencil.


STEP 04

Refined Pencil Drawing

 

The face, hair curls, fingers, bowl, robe folds, lotus petals, halo rays, and decorative border are refined before ink is introduced.


STEP 05

Partial Ink Outlining

 

Fine brush lines define the face, hair, hands, left robe, halo, background, and selected lotus petals while the remaining areas stay in pencil.


STEP 06

Final Line Drawing

 

The full Buddha, robe, bowl, lotus, halo, jewel points, and background ornament are completed in precise dark linework.


STEP 07

First Color Layers

 

Thin mineral-pigment washes begin on the terracotta skin, indigo hair, saffron robe edge, dark blue bowl, and selected pink lotus petals.


STEP 08

Half Colored Painting

 

Color develops across the Buddha, left and upper halo, floral border, and part of the lotus while the right-lower areas remain visible as line art.


STEP 09

Near Complete Coloring

 

The gold ground, saffron robe, jewel points, green accents, and pink-white lotus approach completion, leaving only a few fine highlights and border areas unfinished.


STEP 10

Completed Painting

 

Final shading, facial refinement, gold detailing, robe patterns, jewel accents, and lotus highlights complete the miniature painting before framing.


Finished Piece

The final necklace preserves the seated Buddha with terracotta-red skin, indigo hair and topknot, saffron robe, dark blue alms bowl, luminous gold halo, colored jewel points, and a white lotus with pink petals and a green upper rim.

 

Handmade Character

Every stage is completed by hand. Natural variations in line weight, pigment depth, gold application, and minute decorative details are part of the character of a handmade miniature thangka.
